I belong to one of the passenger groups entitled to a free airport check-in service. Can I still use the online check-in for my flight?

Accepted Answer

Some categories of passengers, regardless of their purchased fare, are entitled to a free airport check-in service (courtesy of Eurowings). A full list of these passengers can be found on the following page. As a rule, all passengers have the option of checking in online either via eurowings.com or via the Eurowings app.

However, some passenger categories are excluded from using this service due to different operational regulations. An overview of passengers excluded for online check-in can be found here. If you belong to one of these categories, online check-in is not available and you have the option of free check-in at the airport counter.

Question 2

APIS data collection and entry information for Eurowings flights to the USA and flights over US territory

Accepted Answer

For flights to, from or via certain countries*, airlines are required by law to collect data via the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) and transmit it to the relevant authorities before departure.

The following information is required:

Title
First name and surname
Date and country of birth
Gender
Nationality
Passport data

Additional APIS data is required for entry into the USA**:

Airport of arrival
Street of your place of stay
City of your place of stay
State of your place of stay

Travellers who have booked online can enter their data directly after their booking. Missing data can also be entered later in the 'My Eurowings' account.

In order to avoid unnecessary waiting times at the check-in counters, we recommend that you enter the APIS data in full via our online form as early as possible before departure.

Please note that if you do not provide complete information, you may be denied travel authorisation.

When can I check in at Eurowings?

Our counters generally open 2 hours before departure and close 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time. In order to ensure a prompt departure, a later check-in time is unfortunately no longer possible. The right to carriage is forfeited in the event of a late arrival.

Our recommendation:

Arrive at the counter at least 1 hour 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time to ensure a stress-free flight to your holiday destination or a relaxed start to your business trip.

We ask for your understanding that we are unable to allow check-in the evening before departure.

How does Eurowings online check-in work?

Accepted Answer

Enter your six-digit booking number or your etix® ticket number on the "Online Check-in" page, and then enter your last name or the last name of one of the passengers on your booking. Note that these must be entered exactly as they are in your booking reservation.

You can now check in all passengers in your booking at the same time, including infants.

You can now also reserve a seat.

To finish, simply print out your boarding pass.

Online check-in opens 72 hours before and closes three hours before departure, and 40 minutes before departure at German airports (excluding: Karlsruhe, Baden-Baden and Heringsdorf on the island of Usedom). At London Heathrow, due to the size of this international airport, online check-in is only available up to 45 minutes prior to departure. In Palma de Mallorca online check-in is only available up to 45 minutes prior to departure. In Amsterdam online check-in is only available up to 40 minutes prior to departure.

Baggage

If you are only travelling with hand baggage, once you complete online check-in you may go straight to the gate. However, if you have special baggage, excess baggage or any baggage that you would simply like to check in, you are kindly asked to proceed to our airport check-in counters first (or directly to dedicated baggage drop where available, such as Berlin, Hanover, Cologne/Bonn, Munich and Stuttgart).

I am flying with a Eurowings BASIC fare. How do I check in for a Eurowings flight free of charge?

There are several ways to check in for our flights for free, regardless of the fare purchased:

1. Online check-in

The online check-in page allows you to check in from the comfort of your office or home. This option has the distinct advantage of saving you time and stress, as you can check in all travellers at the same time and secure them the best available seats. All you need is your six-digit booking code or etix® ticket number.

2. Mobile check-in

Eurowings mobile services allow you to check in on the go using only your mobile phone with an internet connection. You can check in via your browser or, even more conveniently, via the Eurowings app for iPhone or Android. For this method, all you need is your six-digit booking code and the last name under which the booking was made. During the check-in process, you can choose whether you want to receive your boarding pass by SMS or email, or whether you prefer to save your boarding pass in the Passbook/Wallet or in the Eurowings app.

3. Self-service check-in

Passengers can check in conveniently at our self-service check-in machines at Cologne/Bonn, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Hanover, Nuremberg, London Heathrow, Stuttgart and Vienna airports.

Can I select a seat during Eurowings check-in?

Accepted Answer

Yes. In the BASIC fare, we first select a seat for you. If you prefer a different seat, you can choose your preferred seat for just €5* extra, for example with more legroom or near the window. In the SMART and BIZclass fares, you can reserve a seat free of charge*. This can be done easily and conveniently via online check-in or mobile check-in.

If I only have hand baggage and checked in online for my Eurowings flight, do I still need to go to the check-in desk?

Accepted Answer

If you are travelling with hand baggage only and have your boarding pass ready, you can directly head to security control and the gate.

In case you have more baggage with you, please check it in at the check-in counter (additional charge applies).

What do I need for Eurowings check-in?

Accepted Answer

You just need your booking number or your etix® ticket number and a valid ID.

Please make sure to find out well in advance of your flight about any visas or other entry documents you may require. The relevant consulate will be able to advise you on this matter.

Can I use my Eurowings boarding pass to enter the Lounge?

Accepted Answer

Passengers who book our BIZclass fare or travel with us as a Miles & More HON Circle Member or Senator in the SMART fare are entitled to lounge access at selected airports.

Miles & More Frequent Travellers in the SMART fare receive access exclusively to the Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and Swiss Business Lounges as well as to Brussels Airlines' and Eurowings' own lounges.

Question 10

Do I need to print my boarding pass before I arrive at the airport?

Accepted Answer

If you have successfully completed online check-in, you do not need to additionally print the boarding pass. However, you can have your boarding pass sent to you via email as a precaution, or you can simply save it in the Eurowings app.

Online check-in may not be available in some cases, for example if you did not book directly via our app or website. In cases such as these, please contact our check-in counter at the airport.

Question 11

When and where do I get my boarding pass for a Eurowings connecting flight?

Accepted Answer

Flights with a German departure airport and connecting flight in Berlin, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Hanover, Cologne, Munich or Stuttgart.

If you depart from a German Eurowings airport and change flights in Berlin, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Hanover, Cologne, Munich or Stuttgart, you will receive your boarding pass for the entire Eurowings flight at the airport of departure.

All other flights with connections in:

Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich, Stuttgart
You will receive your boarding pass for the onward flight for all other Eurowings flights with a connecting flight in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich or Stuttgart at the gate of your onward flight.
Dortmund
If you change planes in Dortmund, you will receive your boarding pass for the onward flight at the Eurowings check-in in the terminal.
Hanover
If you change planes in Hanover, you will receive your boarding pass for your onward flight at the Eurowings check-in counter in Terminal A.

Does Eurowings charge extra for checking in at the airport?

Accepted Answer

Our airport check-in service is free for all SMART or BIZclass fare passengers. A surcharge applies to passengers flying with BASIC fare. An overview of our fares is available here.

If you are flying with BASIC fare but would still like to check in at the airport, you can add the airport check-in option when booking.

Question 13

I tried to perform online check-in but it is not working. Would I still be charged an extra fee for checking in at the airport (since I am flying on a BASIC fare)?

Accepted Answer

Our online check-in service is quite reliable, but we’re aware that bugs and errors can always creep in. If you are experiencing some issues with our online check-in, we advise you to go through the check-list below. It resolves 75% of all the questions we are receiving from our users!

Double check if online check-in is available for your flight. Online check-in service is unfortunately not yet available for all the airports we fly to.
Verify if it’s the right time to check in. As a general rule, the service is made accessible from 72 hours up to 3 hours prior to your flight’s departure, but some exceptions do exist.
Make sure that the information you enter when checking in online matches the information in your flight booking exactly.
Get acquainted with the airline that operates your flight. For example, if your itinerary involves flights exclusively or partially operated by one of our partner airlines, you might have to check in online via partner airline’s website. This should be indicated in your booking confirmation sent to you via email (most often with the subject “Your Lufthansa Group booking”).
Do you remember requesting or purchasing one of our special services (e.g. travelling with your pet in cabin, purchasing an extra seat for comfort, travelling with reduced mobility, transporting weapons & ammunition or similar)? If so, do note that online check-in might be prohibited due to different safety and technical requirements. In such cases, check-in at the airport counter would be conducted free of charge for the passengers holding a special service that has been confirmed and paid for (regardless of purchased fare entitlements).

If you by chance fall within those 25% of users who are experiencing issues that are not mentioned within the check-list – do not despair. Simply provide proof that you attempted to check in online to our staff at the check-in counter and they will be happy to assist you further at no extra charge. Please make sure to find out what we consider to be valid proof in such cases.

Question 14

I checked in online but I am unable to generate my boarding pass. Would I get charged if I approach your staff at the airport check-in counter?

Accepted Answer

Be aware that when you are flying from some airports (like Pristina, Tirana, Faro, or Jerez), mobile boarding passes would not be accepted as valid boarding documents due to operational requests.

That is why checking in for flights originating from these destinations is only possible via eurowings.com (and not from your mobile device or our EW app).

Also, you would not be able to generate your boarding pass upon completion of online check-in.

Due to exceptional operational circumstances, generating a boarding pass could sometimes be prohibited when flying from other destinations as well (either on online or mobile check-in).

Rest assured that in such cases our airport staff will be eager to assist you and print out your boarding pass without any extra charges and regardless of your purchased fare entitlements. However do remember that you would still have to complete online check-in.

Question 15

How can I make use of Eurowings priority check-in?

Accepted Answer

You can select the priority check-in in the booking process. With our priority check-in you can check in quickly and easily at all available priority check-in counters (at all BIZclass stations).

If you are a holder of a Eurowings Credit Card Gold and have booked at least the SMART tariff, you can also use our priority check-in. Simply present your Eurowings Credit Card Gold at the counter.

Can I pre-purchase the airport check-in as an extra option at a reduced fee?

Accepted Answer

You can always pre-purchase the airport check-in option if your fare does not include this service free-of-charge. Purchasing it in advance as an extra service comes at a 50% discount. Additionally, all passengers also have the option to pre-purchase the priority airport check-in service. For an additional fee of 15€ / £13 per passenger, you could skip all the queues at the check-in and experience our “fast lane” option for the most efficient check-in experience. Why can I not manage or view my flight online via Eurowings?

Accepted Answer

If you cannot view or manage your flight online, please check the details on your booking confirmation to make sure that these are the same.

If the information is correct, and you still cannot access your booking, this could be because you did not make the booking directly with Eurowings, but rather via a travel agency, a travel portal or a tour organiser. In this case, please contact the company with which you made the booking directly. Otherwise, our call centre as well as our ground crew at the airport will of course be happy to help you.

Flights with our airlines

At eurowings.com, you can now also combine our flights with flights from other airlines. On selected routes, we offer you the additional possibility to book direct flights within our partner network.

If you cannot find your flight booking at eurowings.com, this could be because you booked a Eurowings flight on our website in combination with another airline, or even a direct flight with another airline. Please check your booking confirmation, which was sent to you by email with the subject “Your Lufthansa Group booking”.
