As a blind or hearing-impaired passenger, you can start your journey without having to undergo an air travel fitness assessment. We offer the following assistance to passengers with visual impairment or hearing impairment:

Individual information about delays and other travel matters
Individual personal safety briefings
Assistance when transferring to a connecting flight
Assistance in disembarking and reaching the airport exit at destination
Assistance at the airport (only for passengers with visual impairment)

Question 2

Can my assistance dog travel with me in the cabin on Eurowings flights?

Accepted Answer

Recognised assistance dogs (so-called Service Animals/SVAN) such as guide dogs for the blind, signal dogs, diabetic alert dogs or epilepsy dogs can be taken free of charge in the cabin on all flights operated by Eurowings. Please register the animal by e-mail up to 72 hours before departure, stating size, age and breed. To do so, send this form to our Customer Service.

Eurowings only accepts trained assistance dogs in the cabin. Emotional support/therapy dogs (so-called Emotional Support Animals/ESAN) are not classified as assistance dogs and travel under the usual transport conditions for pets.

In which cases may a passenger only travel with an accompanying person and not alone?

Accepted Answer

In the following cases, an adult companion travelling together with a passenger with reduced mobility or sensory perception is necessary for safety reasons:

the passenger cannot assist in his/her own evacuation (must be carried, for example)
the passenger cannot orientate him/herself independently
the passenger is unable to communicate with cabin crew for safety instructions
the passenger cannot understand and/or follow safety instructions

What services does Eurowings offer passengers with cognitive impairments?

Accepted Answer

Eurowings offers special services to passengers with visual or hearing impairments as well as passengers with cognitive impairments before, during and after the flight. To ensure the best possible preparation, please inform us of the need for assistance at the time of booking or, if possible, up to 72 hours before departure by sending your completed registration form to our Customer Service.

Question 5

May I travel with a cast?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it is generally possible to transport passengers with a cast. The prerequisite for this is that the cast was applied at least 5 days before the start of the journey. If the cast was applied less than 5 days before departure, it must have a split or expansion joint. We recommend that you obtain a medical certificate of your fitness to fly in advance and have this checked via our contact form. You are welcome to use this form for this purpose.

For which mobility impairments does Eurowings offer cost-free assistance before, during and after the flight?

Accepted Answer

In air travel, the use of a wheelchair is divided into three internationally valid categories.

Wheelchair Ramp (WCHR): The passenger only needs the wheelchair to cover longer distances. Climbing stairs is possible independently.
Wheelchair Steps (WCHS): The passenger cannot climb stairs, but can walk short distances.
Wheelchair Cabin (WCHC): The passenger always needs a wheelchair and cannot move around the cabin without assistance. A personal wheelchair is carried long.

If one of these mobility restrictions applies to you, please let us know which one it is when you book your flight or subsequently by emailing our form to our Customer Service. In these cases, passengers with reduced mobility receive cost-free assistance at the point of departure and destination, as well as on board the aircraft.

What assistance do passengers with reduced mobility or impaired sensory perception receive on board?

Accepted Answer

Our cabin crew will be happy to help you:

with walking or the use of the on-board wheelchair to the toilet
stowing hand baggage and assistive devices
communicating with passengers who are visually or hearing impaired

If you require assistance beyond this, we ask that you be accompanied by a companion of legal age who will travel with you. The following assistance cannot be provided by our staff:

Assistance with the use of the toilet
Lifting or carrying guests
Assistance with taking meals
Administering medication or supervising the taking of medication

Question 8

Is flying during pregnancy dangerous or problematic?

Accepted Answer

Flying during an uncomplicated pregnancy is usually unproblematic. However, we recommend consulting your gynaecologist before flying.

Expectant mothers with an uncomplicated pregnancy can fly with Eurowings without a certificate from their gynaecologist up to the end of the 36th week of pregnancy/up to four weeks before the expected due date. Nevertheless, from the 28th week of pregnancy, it is recommended that you carry an up-to-date medical certificate provided by your doctor.

During pregnancy, you should generally avoid air travel if you are expecting multiples, have already suffered a miscarriage or suffer from cardiovascular diseases. In addition, there is an increased risk of thrombosis during the entire pregnancy period. In order to exclude any other possible risks, we recommend that you consult your doctor before the planned flight.

Up to which week of pregnancy am I allowed to fly with Eurowings?

Accepted Answer

Expectant mothers with an uncomplicated pregnancy can fly with Eurowings without a certificate from their gynaecologist up to the end of the 36th week of pregnancy/up to four weeks before the expected due date. Nevertheless, from the 28th week of pregnancy, it is recommended that you carry an up-to-date medical certificate that includes the following information provided by your doctor:

Confirmation that the pregnancy is proceeding without complication
Confirmation that the patient's pregnancy does not prevent them from flying
The expected due date

Question 10

I suffer from allergies. What measures are in place to prevent allergic reactions on board Eurowings flights?

Accepted Answer

There are many causes for allergies and intolerances, and it is not possible to exclude the possibility of their presence on board a plane. However, the HEPA (high efficiency particulate air filter) filters used on board can help passengers suffering from cat hair and house-dust allergies. The filtration system circulates the cabin air (max. 40–50%), which is then supplemented with outside air. The minimum fresh air quantity and pore diameter of the filter are also prescribed by the approval regulations of the aircraft model.

Meals and snacks are served during Eurowings flights. Passengers are also allowed to bring their own food on board. For this reason, Eurowings is unable to guarantee that the aircraft is free of foodstuffs that may trigger an allergic reaction, such as peanuts.

Our medically trained cabin crew always has access to medication to provide emergency medical care in the event of an intolerance or allergic shock on board. We do recommend also carrying any necessary medication (allergy medication, EpiPen) in your hand baggage should you suffer from any allergies.

Question 11

I wear a pacemaker. What do I have to bear in mind when travelling by plane?

Accepted Answer

If you are fitted with a pacemaker, you must present a medical certificate at the security gate. You can obtain such a certificate from your doctor. Before your journey, please also inform yourself about the possible risks associated with airline travel, such as the use of full body scanners at security gates.

What rules apply to the transport of wheelchairs?

Accepted Answer

You are welcome to bring your own (manual/electric) wheelchair, provided the electric wheelchair is one with a leak-proof dry or gel battery. Wheelchairs with wet batteries as well as unsealed or non-spill-proof batteries are unfortunately not permitted on Eurowings flights for safety reasons.

Before departure, please ensure that the battery of your wheelchair is not connected ready for operation and that the poles are secured against a short circuit and insulated. In addition, the battery must be securely attached to the wheelchair for transport. We kindly ask you to inform Eurowings about the transport of your wheelchair at least 72 hours before departure by sending an e-mail to our Customer Service. Please send us our registration form for this purpose.

What special regulations apply at Eurowings with regard to emergency exit seating?

Accepted Answer

Please note that the following groups of people are not allowed to sit in the exit row at the emergency exit due to safety regulations imposed by the authorities:

Infants and children (up to 16 years)
Persons carrying animals in the cabin
Expectant mothers
Physically and/or mentally impaired persons
Persons whose mobility is restricted due to their physical stature, illness or age
Persons who speak neither German nor English

Please note that by reserving an emergency exit seat, you confirm that these criteria do not apply to you and/or the person(s) you have booked a ticket for. Should this nevertheless be the case, we are entitled to assign another seat to the person(s) concerned without refunding the reservation costs. In case of doubt, the Eurowings cabin crew will decide.

May mobility aids such as wheelchairs, crutches or walking aids be used on board?

Accepted Answer

On short and medium-haul routes, we are happy to provide you with a wheelchair on board. The prerequisite for this is that you notify us of this requirement at least 72 hours before departure. Question 15

What does the transport of mobility aids such as wheelchairs, crutches or walking aids cost?

Accepted Answer

The transport of up to 2 mobility aids (wheelchair, crutches, other type of walking aids) per passenger is free of charge on Eurowings flights. However, we ask you to register the additional service with us. This applies in particular to larger groups travelling with mobility aids, as loading and transport can be better planned by us in this way.

What should I be aware of when flying with a cognitive impairment?

Accepted Answer

People flying with a cognitive impairment should observe the following points:

International airports are often large with complex layouts. It is easy to become disorientated and confused. Security, customs and police checks may cause stress and discomfort. For these reasons, it is important not to overestimate the resilience of a person with cognitive impairment.

For special impairments, which may lead to a loss of memory or orientation (e.g. Alzheimer's), there is a risk that the traveller may not observe safety instructions from flight personnel. However, in case of turbulence during a flight, travellers must be able to follow safety instructions given by the crew.

If any of these points pose a risk to a traveller with cognitive impairment, we strongly recommend that they travel accompanied.

We are happy to offer an accompanying service, which may be booked in writing. Please request this from our customer service, using the form, up to 72 hours before departure.

Question 17

In which cases must a person be accompanied?

Accepted Answer

For safety reasons, a person with limited mobility or sensory impairment must be accompanied by an adult under the following circumstances:

The passenger ...

would be unable to evacuate independently (for example, they must be carried)
is unable to orient themselves
is unable to communicate with the cabin attendants during safety instructions
is unable to understand and/or follow safety instructions

Can my assistance dog travel with me in the cabin?

Recognised assistance dogs (so-called service animals/SVAN), such as guide dogs, hearing dogs, diabetic alert dogs or seizure alert dogs are permitted to travel free in the cabin on all flights operated by Eurowings.

Please register your animal by email, providing its size, age, and breed up to 72 hours ahead of departure. Please send the relevant form to our customer service.

Eurowings permits only trained assistance dogs in the cabin. Emotional support animals (ESAN) or therapy dogs are not classified as assistance dogs and travel under the standard transport conditions for pets.

Question 19

Requirements for the transport of assistance dogs

Accepted Answer

In order to ensure safety and hygiene on our flights, the following general requirements apply to the transport of assistance dogs in the cabin.

Your assistance dog must be trained to obey you and behave appropriately in a public environment (for example, no barking, growling, jumping at people or other animals).

The dog must be at least four months old.

Under no circumstances may the animal defecate in the cabin or at the boarding gate, or do so only in a way that does not pose a health hazard or hygiene problem.

Your dog must be seated in front of your seat and attached to your seat belt with a leash. The animal is not allowed not sit in a regular passenger seat.

It is recommended that you secure your dog with a dog harness rather than a collar.

Out of consideration for other passengers, a leash and muzzle must be carried for the dog.

If the aforementioned requirements are not met, if your dog does not behave appropriately or if no appropriate training certificates are presented, Eurowings may refuse to transport the animal. You also assume liability for any damage and additional costs incurred in connection with the transport of the dog.

Question 20

Required documents for the transport of assistance dogs

Accepted Answer

To ensure that we can safely transport the assistance dog in the cabin, we require the following documents to be presented by you at check-in.

Training certificate from an assistance dog training facility that holds accreditation from Assistance Dogs International (ADI), Assistance Dogs Europe (ADEu) or International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF), or
Training certificate from another training facility stating the type of training, task, duration and location.
Your own written confirmation that your dog meets the requirements for the trip as listed below.

Please note that a certificate of completed obedience training or completed DOT form is not sufficient for travel outside the US. Likewise, self-study and online training portals will not be accepted.

If you are unable to provide this, your dog will travel under the standard pet transportation conditions.
