General information for passengers with restrictions
In air travel, the use of a wheelchair is divided into three internationally valid categories.
Wheelchair Ramp (WCHR): The passenger only needs the wheelchair to cover longer distances. Climbing stairs is possible independently.
Wheelchair Steps (WCHS): The passenger cannot climb stairs, but can walk short distances.
Wheelchair Cabin (WCHC): The passenger always needs a wheelchair and cannot move around the cabin without assistance. A personal wheelchair is carried along.
If one of these mobility restrictions applies to you, please let us know which one it is when you book your flight or subsequently by emailing our form to our Customer Service.

Costs for transporting a mobility aid (wheelchair, crutch, walking aid etc.)
The transport of up to 2 mobility aids (wheelchair, crutches, other type of walking aids) per passenger is free of charge on Eurowings flights. However, we ask you to register the additional service with us. This applies in particular to larger groups travelling with mobility aids, as loading and transport can be better planned by us in this way.
You can also take your mobility aid with you free of charge on Eurowings flights operated by another airline or booked through a travel agency. You can obtain information on this from the relevant airline or travel agency.

We recommend registering your mobility assistance at the time of booking – either via our mobile services or directly online. To do so, click on „Special flight assistance“ under „Additional services“ in the second step of the online flight booking. Enter the desired services for the outbound and return flight, for example the transport of a wheelchair.
Registering a mobility aid retrospectively after the flight booking has been completed
Registering a mobility aid retrospectively after the flight booking has been completed
Even after you have already booked a flight, you can register mobility aids such as a wheelchair online or via our mobile services until the web check-in closes. To do so, log on to eurowings.com in the „My trip“ section, click on „Add services“ and then on „Special flight assistance“. You can find more information about booking extra services online in our FAQs.
Please complete the questionnaire online and send it to assistance@eurowings.com. Also note the dimensions and weight of your mobility aid on the form. If your wheelchair needs to be loaded upright, the dimensions of the wheelchair may be subject to restrictions depending on the type of aircraft. For example, the smallest height of the freight hold of our aircraft is only 83 cm.
Regulations for the transport of manual or electric wheelchairs
Regulations for the transport of manual or electric wheelchairs
You are welcome to bring your own (manual/electric) wheelchair, provided the electric wheelchair is one with a leak-proof dry or gel battery. Wheelchairs with wet batteries as well as unsealed or non-spill-proof batteries are unfortunately not permitted on Eurowings flights for safety reasons.
Before departure, please ensure that the battery of your wheelchair is not connected ready for operation and that the poles are secured against a short circuit and insulated. In addition, the battery must be securely attached to the wheelchair for transport. We kindly ask you to inform Eurowings about the transport of your wheelchair at least 72 hours before departure by sending an e-mail to our Customer Service. Please send us our registration form for this purpose.
If you are transporting your own (manual/electric) wheelchair or mobility aid, please note that the loading height is restricted to 1.15 metres (Airbus A320 family) or 0.86 metres (Boeing 737-800).
For more information on the different types of wheelchair batteries and their transport conditions, see our page „Prohibited items and dangerous goods in the luggage“ in the section „Battery-operated devices“.

Travelling with a cast
Travelling with a cast
Yes, it is generally possible to transport passengers with a cast. The prerequisite for this is that the cast was applied at least 5 days before the start of the journey. If the cast was applied less than 5 days before departure, it must have a split or expansion joint. We recommend that you obtain a medical certificate of your fitness to fly in advance and have this checked via our contact form. You are welcome to use this form for this purpose.
Travelling during pregnancy
Travelling during pregnancy
Pregnant women can fly without hesitation up to and including the 36th week of pregnancy without exposing themselves to an increased health risk – provided the pregnancy is uncomplicated. For the sake of your health and that of your unborn child, you are not allowed to travel by plane after the 36th week of pregnancy.
During pregnancy, you should generally avoid air travel if you are expecting multiples, have already suffered a miscarriage or suffer from cardiovascular diseases. In addition, there is an increased risk of thrombosis during the entire pregnancy period. In order to exclude any other possible risks, we recommend that you consult your doctor before the planned flight.
Please note that you will be required to present your maternity passport or a medical certificate to prove your fitness to fly upon request.

Information on arrival and departure by train
At airports, there are different transport options for passengers with reduced mobility depending on local conditions. For example, you may need to change wheelchairs to get from the airport to the aircraft, as boarding and disembarking on the same level as the aircraft is not possible at all airports.
Check-in and security check
Check-in and security check
Allow enough time for check-in and security checks to avoid unnecessary time pressure. We therefore recommend arriving at the airport 2 hours before departure. The Eurowings check-in counters usually open 2-3 hours and close 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
If you require the escort service only from the check-in counter, please indicate the services you have booked there so that you can be given priority. Although it is not compulsory, we ask you to inform us of the nature of your impairment (for example, mobility impairment or pacemaker) so that we can provide you with the best possible assistance.
More information about check-in can be found here.
