Reduced flight prices for children

Reduced flight prices for children

To let you discover the world with your children comfortably and affordably, Eurowings offers reduced prices for young passengers:

  • Children aged from 2, up to and including 11 years old, as well as infants under 2 years of age who travel on their own seat with a child seat, receive a discount on the regular flight price.

  • Infants under 2 years of age who travel on a parent’s lap only pay a flat service fee per leg of  €25 / £21 / 23 CHF / $27 / 619 CZK / 296 SEK / 282 NOK / 186 DKK / 109 PLN / 9.696 HUF / 99 AED on short- and medium-haul flights operated by Eurowings (EW flight number).

  • The discount for children aged 2 to 11 years and the flat service fee for infants under the age of 2 are automatically applied when booking. This discount is not offered for group bookings of 10 people or more (e.g. school classes), because an advantageous group price already applies here.

Please also note:

For round trips, the child's age on the return flight determines the fare. For safety reasons, we can only allow one infant per adult on board. If you are travelling with a second child under two years of age, you have the option of booking a seat for that child and carrying the appropriate child restraint system with you. Please contact our call centre to arrange this.

Prams, buggies, baggage

The same travel baggage allowances apply for children (2-11 years old) as for adult passengers, with exact details depending on which fare is booked. For each infant (0-24 months) travelling, one additional 23 kg item of baggage can be checked in free of charge, whichever fare is booked.

For each child up to and including 11 years old, we will additionally transport two of the following items free of charge and check them in as baggage:

  • Pram

  • Buggy

  • Child seat

  • Travel cot

Further items of Baggage must be booked at extra cost. It is not possible to take prams or buggies (except pocket buggies) on board the aircraft.

“Pocket buggies” – compact foldable buggies

It is possible to take a “pocket buggy” into the cabin in place of one large piece of hand baggage (max. 8 kg) on board, e.g. if you have booked the SMART fare.

Child seats

If you want your child to sit on a child seat in the cabin, the seat must first be checked for suitability at the check-in counter. This means online check-in is never possible in this situation. Find out more about child seats here.

Travelling with infants (0-24 months) on a BASIC fare

If your infant is travelling on your lap, you can take two small items of hand baggage (40 x 30 x 25 cm) on board with you. These must be stowed under the seat in front of you. More info about hand baggage on the BASIC fare is available here.

Questions about family & children:

  • Children aged 12 or older may fly alone. Children under 12 may only fly accompanied by a responsible adult. Children between the age of five and eleven may also travel accompanied by a sibling aged sixteen years or older. The child`s companion must be able to assist the child at all times in the case of any unusual event. If the responsible adult does not have parental authority, we must be provided with the following written permission from an adult with parental authority.

Please note that special entry and exit conditions apply in some countries.

    Unaccompanied minor service

Eurowings offers an unaccompanied minor service (UM service) for children aged from five up to and including 11. This is available on any direct flights between the following locations:

    • Germany (incl. domestic)

    • Austria

    • Switzerland

    • Palma de Mallorca (PMI)

    • Prague (PRG)

    • Stockholm (ARN)

For this purpose, please complete the unaccompanied minor form.

For teenagers between 12 and 17 years travelling alone, the availability of the unaccompanied minor service is optional on request. Our friendly staff will not only ensure the well-being of your child during the flight, but will also make sure that your child arrives safely in the destination airport.

    Booking

The UM service and the corresponding flight can be booked via the call centre or at a Eurowings airport counter, but unfortunately not online or via mobile phone.

    Charges

A charge will be applied per journey leg and per child. This must be paid with the booking payment.

    Note:

All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines` flights, which do not have an EW flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines` own websites. These partner airlines currently include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

  • In addition to the booking number or etix® ticket number, all travellers including infants, children and adolescents require ID.

As of 26 June 2012, every child with German nationality, regardless of age, requires their own travel document to travel abroad. Joint passports for parents and children are no longer recognised. The new regulation also applies for travel within the EU and the Schengen area.

    Children under 12

As described here, children under 12 are normally required to travel with a responsible adult. If a child travels with an adult who does not have parental authority, written permission from the parent or an adult with parental authority is required. If such permission is not presented, the child will not be allowed to fly with us.

The required declaration form can be downloaded here.

Special regulations also apply for booking flights for children under 12.

Further information on this topic can be found here.

    Foreign nationals

For foreign nationals living in Germany, the regulations of their homeland and the entry regulations of the destination country apply.

    Special entry and exit regulations

Special entry and exit regulations apply in certain countries, such as France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Romania and Israel, for children travelling alone. Each passenger is responsible for ensuring they comply with these regulations. We therefore recommend that you find out the relevant requirements from the responsible authorities in good time to ensure you have all the correct documentation for the flight.

  • Children may use a booster seat, provided you have booked a separate seat for your child (bookings for children under the age of two can only be made via the call centre or at our airport counter).

You can take your own booster seat on board. Neither Eurowings nor its partner airlines provide booster seats.

Please note that you must check in at the airport counter if you intend to use a booster seat in the cabin. As a representative at the check-in counter will make sure the booster seat is suitable for your flight, online check-in and self-service check-in are not possible.

If you would like to bring your own car seat or child restraint system on board, please make sure:

    • you register the child restraint device in time via our call centre, airport service counter or use our contact form,

    • you book a suitable seat in advance (not in the first row, not at the emergency exit row or in a row in front of or directly behind the emergency exit),

    • you are using an approved car seat/child restraint device (see below),

    • the device is in perfect working order,

    • you are familiar with using the device in an aircraft,

    • you will attach the device to the seat, and

    • you agree to check in the car seat or child restraint device as checked baggage if it doesn't appear in the list of approved devices below, if it's not in an acceptable working order or cannot be attached to the passenger seat.

If a seat does not comply with requirements, our employees are authorised to prevent its use and to stow the seat in a separate location. In such cases, infants will be secured with a loop belt on the adult's lap. We regret that it will not be possible to refund the price paid for the separate seat.

You will find more information about approved booster seats on our “Travelling with children” page.
