Everything you need to know about transporting animals at a glance

  • Eurowings only transports small dogs and cats (up to 8 kg) and only in the cabin. Please ensure that you transport your animal in a transport bag that meets our requirements.

  • We only offer this service on short- and medium-haul flights.

  • The EU Regulations on the animal health requirements for the carriage of pets, which came into force on 1 October 2004, must also be observed. Please read the regulations before booking or check with your vet, the veterinary office or the border inspection post.

  • Category 1 fighting dogs (as defined by classification/legislation at the point of departure), such as pit bulls and Staffordshire bull terriers, will not be transported for safety reasons.

  • In order to ensure a stress-free journey for your pet, find out, for example from the respective consulate or your vet, about the import and export regulations of the country of departure, transit and arrival that apply to your pet in good time and before booking your flight. It is important to obtain all the necessary travel documents for your pet in advance to make sure that nothing stands in the way of the trip.

  • You must complete a form and present it at the check-in desk before your pet can travel.

  • The pet must be placed in a waterproof, bite-proof, sealed, but air-permeable bag (not a hard-sided container).

  • The bag must not exceed a maximum size of 55 x 40 x 23 cm.

  • The pet, including the bag, must not weigh more than 8 kg.

  • The pet must be able to stand upright in the bag.

  • The pet must be able to turn and lie down in a natural position.

  • You are permitted to carry a maximum of two animals in a permitted transport bag per person. Please note that all requirements apply equally for both animals. The total weight of the bag including the two animals must not exceed a maximum weight of 8kg.

  • If all requirements are met, the bag will receive a special Pet-in-Cabin baggage label at the check-in desk.

  • You cannot reserve seats at the emergency exits when carrying a pet on board.

  • The pet must be at least 12 weeks old for animal welfare reasons.

  • Get your pet used to its carrier at home before the journey by placing it in the closed carrier several times for a few hours and then rewarding it.

  • Many pets get very nervous before and during the flight. Therefore, consider whether you should and want to sedate your pet with medication. However, your pet’s reactions under medication cannot be predicted. For example, circulatory problems may occur during the flight. Please discuss the eventualities with your vet.

  • Put an item that your pet is familiar with in the carrier so it is soothed by the familiar smell.

  • Check with your vet to see how you should adjust your pet’s diet for air travel if necessary.
