  • To ensure that your credit cards and personal information are kept as secure as possible, we use the most up-to-date Secure Sockets Layer technology (SSL with 128-bit encryption). This is the most secure method of transferring sensitive data over the Internet. We also meet the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS).

The common certification standard of international payment systems ensures secure processing and storage of all payment card details. At the beginning of 2010, Germanwings was one of the first European airlines to achieve conformity with the PCI DSS and prove this in an audit by the independent accredited auditing firm SRC Security Research & Consulting GmbH.

    Note:

We recommend that you use the latest version of your browser to ensure that your transactions are processed securely.

    • The card verification code is a personal, non-machine-readable security feature for credit or debit cards.

    • The verification code is a three-digit number that is used only for purchases made online, via fax, letter or by phone. This helps protect against misuse.

    • A card verification code is found solely on credit or debit cards.

    • The code is a randomly generated and has no connection to the 16-digit card number.

Card verification codes are labelled differently. The usual names for them are:

    • MasterCard: Card Validation Code (CVC)

    • Visa: Card Verification Value (CVV/CVV2)

  • Which debit cards does eurowings.com accept for online bookings?

You can pay with the following debit cards:

    • MasterCard Debit

    • Visa Debit

    • Visa Electron

    Corporate debit cards

    • Degussa Corporate Debit Card

    • AirPlus Corporate Debit Account

Additional data is collected during the booking process when paying with AirPlus or Degussa. Verification codes are not required.

How do I pay with a debit card at eurowings.com?

If you would like to pay by debit card, you will be asked to select the card type in "credit card/debit card" field, enter the account holder name, the card number, the expiry date, and the verification code. The booking will then be completed.

Please note: A security number is not required when paying with AirPlus cards.

  • What is 3D Secure and how is it useful for my card?

3D Secure is the expert term for the security standards surrounding online purchases with credit or debit cards. Mastercard calls its "MasterCard Identity Check". Visa calls it "Visa Secure". American Express calls it "Safekey".

Eurowings complies with the new legal requirements and adapts all of its payment processes to the strict customer authentication standard. This strict customer authentication standard is a requirement of the second EU Directive concerning payment services (PSDII), which applies to payment service providers operating in the European Economic Area (EEA) as well as to credit or debit cards issued in the EEA. Online payments must verified by at least two of the following three elements:

    1.       Something that you know: Password, code word, PIN, sequence or known fact

    2.       Something that you own: Mobile phone, portable device, smart card, token, or badge

    3.       Something that you are: Fingerprint, facial recognition, voice recognition, retinal scan, or DNA

The directive's requirements for payment services heightens the security of electronic payments.

Your transactions are protected by (for example) a password or a transaction number (mTAN) sent to your phone by text message (identification processes vary between banks). This allows you to make online purchases without worry. You may also be asked to answer a security question. The security question and answer are recorded by your bank during the card registration process. Security questions are often asked in a separate pop-up window. So, make sure your browser's pop-up blocker has been deactivated.

    How does 3D Secure work?

Should 3D Secure authentication be required for an online transaction, a separate window will open after you enter your card details. There you enter your password or an mTAN you've been sent. You may also be asked to answer the security question connected to your card. If all the information is correct, your bank confirms that you are the authorised cardholder and the payment process can be completed.

When using the 3D Secure system to make a payment for the first time, you will be asked to register for 3D Secure after you enter your credit or debit card details. A dialogue window from your card issuer will open and you can complete the registration process.

You can find more information about 3D Secure on your bank's website.
