Reduced flight prices for children

Reduced flight prices for children

To let you discover the world with your children comfortably and affordably, Eurowings offers reduced prices for young passengers:

  • Children aged from 2, up to and including 11 years old, as well as infants under 2 years of age who travel on their own seat with a child seat, receive a discount on the regular flight price.

  • Infants under 2 years of age who travel on a parent’s lap only pay a flat service fee per leg of  €25 / £21 / 23 CHF / $27 / 619 CZK / 296 SEK / 282 NOK / 186 DKK / 109 PLN / 9.696 HUF / 99 AED on short- and medium-haul flights operated by Eurowings (EW flight number).

  • The discount for children aged 2 to 11 years and the flat service fee for infants under the age of 2 are automatically applied when booking. This discount is not offered for group bookings of 10 people or more (e.g. school classes), because an advantageous group price already applies here.

Please also note:

Only the child’s age at the time of boarding the final flight in the booking is relevant. For safety reasons, we can only allow one infant per adult on board. If you are travelling with a second child under two years of age, you have the option of booking a seat for that child and carrying the appropriate child restraint system with you. Please contact our call centre to arrange this.

Prams, buggies, baggage

The same travel Baggage allowances apply for children (2-11 years old) as for adult passengers, with exact details depending on which fare is booked. For each infant (0-24 months) travelling, one additional 23 kg item of baggage can be checked in free of charge, whichever fare is booked.

For each child up to and including 11 years old, we will additionally transport two of the following items free of charge and check them in as baggage:

  • Pram

  • Buggy

  • Child seat

  • Travel cot

Further items of Baggage must be booked at extra cost. It is not possible to take prams or buggies (except pocket buggies) on board the aircraft.

“Pocket buggies” – compact foldable buggies

It is possible to take a “pocket buggy” into the cabin in place of one large piece of hand baggage (max. 8 kg) on board, e.g. if you have booked the SMART fare or added the “2 items of hand baggage & priority boarding” option to the BASIC fare.

Child seats

If you want your child to sit on a child seat in the cabin, the seat must first be checked for suitability at the check-in counter. This means online check-in is never possible in this situation. Find out more about child seats here.

Travelling with infants (0-24 months) on a BASIC fare

If your infant is travelling on your lap, you can take two small items of hand baggage (40 x 30 x 25 cm) on board with you. These must be stowed under the seat in front of you. If you would like to take additional hand baggage on board with you, we recommend the “2 items of hand baggage & priority boarding” service. More info about hand baggage on the BASIC fare is available here.

At Eurowings, our passengers’ safety is our top priority – and of course this is especially true when it comes to children. With this in mind, you are welcome to bring your own child seat on board with you for your child. Eurowings and its partner airlines do not provide separate child seats.

If you would like to take a child seat with you on board, it is absolutely mandatory to check in at the airport desks. This is because the seat’s suitability needs to be reviewed at the check-in counter; web check-in and self-service check-in are therefore not possible.

If you would like to take your own child’s car seat or your own child restraint system on board with you, please note the following:

  • Register that you are taking this with you via the call centre, airport counter or contact form.

  • Reserve a suitable seat for your child (not in the 1st row, not beside an emergency exit and not in a row in front of or directly behind the emergency exit).

  • Only use an approved child’s car seat / child restraint system (see “Child seats permitted on board”).

  • Only use functioning child seats / child restraint systems.

  • Ensure you are familiar with the use of the child seat / child restraint system in the aircraft.

  • Ensure that the child seat / child restraint system is secured to your seat.

  • You confirm that you understand your child’s car seat or child restraint system needs to be handed over and checked in as baggage if it does not comply with the rules set out below, if it is not functioning correctly, or if it cannot be secured to the seat.

If a seat does not meet the requirements, our staff are entitled to refuse its use and store the seat separately. In this case, infants will be secured on the adult’s lap with a loop belt. If this happens it will unfortunately not be possible to refund the airline ticket for the infant’s separate seat.

  • Child seats that are approved for use in aircraft in accordance with the UN norm ECE R 44, -03 or a later version or ECE R129. Equally, child seats that have passed the qualification procedure for child restraint systems for use in aircraft (TÜV doc.: TÜV/958-01/2001).

  • Child seats that are approved for use in motor vehicles and aircraft in accordance with the Canadian standard CMVSS 213/213.1.

  • Child seats that are approved for use in motor vehicles and aircraft in accordance with the US American norm FMVSS no. 213 and which were manufactured, in accordance with this norm, on or after 26 February 1985 . US-approved child restraint systems that were manufactured after this date must have a sticker attached stating the following in red:
1.) "THIS CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM CONFORMS TO ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLES SAFETY STANDARDS" und
2.) "THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT"

  • Child seats that are approved for use in motor vehicles and aircraft in accordance with the AS/NZS 1754:2013 Australia/New Zealand technical standards and that bear the green section of the mark of conformity with the following text: “For use in aircraft”.
