Why does Eurowings use wetlease partners?

Accepted Answer

In order to be able to implement the flight programme planned for the summer, Eurowings needs support. The aim is to meet passengers increased desire to travel in the summer in the best way possible. This year, we will be working with airBaltic, Avion Express, and Smartwings.

Question 2

Why are partnership aircraft not painted at all or only minimally with the Eurowings livery on the outside?

Accepted Answer

Eurowings rents most of the partnership aircraft only in the busy months. Outside this time, the airline partnerships try to use their aircraft elsewhere. To do this, the jets must be able to be quickly restored to their original condition without much effort. Another customer will not want to fly with Eurowings colours. For this reason, Avion`s white planes will have "only" the large Eurowings logo on them. airBaltic planes will keep the airline`s own look, while occasionally sporting "partner of Eurowings" co-branding. Smartwings will be branded completely in the Eurowings colours.

What is a wet lease partnership?

Accepted Answer

Wet lease means that various airlines conclude a so-called wet lease agreement with each other and fly on behalf of each other, i.e. these airlines lease their aircraft including cockpit crew, on-board crew, maintenance and insurance to Eurowings for a certain period of time.

What language is spoken on board?

Accepted Answer

Air Baltic, Avion Express Malta and Smartwings have English-speaking crews. Accordingly, the language on board is English - as it is at Eurowings Europe. Pre-recorded standard announcements may be played in German. Our wet lease partnerships also strive to have at least one German-speaking crew member per crew.

How many partner airlines are operating for Eurowings?

In the summer months, Eurowings operates a total of 21 additional partnership aircraft:

5 Airbus A220s from Air Baltic (from Düsseldorf)
11 Airbus A320s from Avion Express Malta (from Berlin, Hamburg and Stuttgart)
6 Boeing 737s of Smartwings (from Cologne-Bonn)

How are the high quality standards also ensured in wet lease partnerships?

Accepted Answer

The Lufthansa Group high quality and safety standards are decisive for the selection of our wetlease partnerships. In addition, various departments of the partnership airlines and Eurowings work closely together. The cabin crews, for example, are familiarized with our values and our service concept. Quality checks are also carried out at regular intervals to ensure that the Lufthansa Group quality and safety standards are adhered to. Likewise, statements from crew reports and passenger surveys on wetlease partnerships are recorded and followed up.

Various teams from the areas of Safety, Security, Quality & Compliance supervise the wetlease partnerships in order to achieve the best possible result.

What is it like on board? Do passengers enjoy the usual Eurowings standards? Are the usual in-flight catering, Wings Shop, and Wings Connect available?

Accepted Answer

Wet lease flights may have minor differences in how the cabin is furnished or may temporarily not have products available. Our Wings Bistro and Wings Shop are usually available aboard wet lease flights. However, we are unable to offer WingsConnect aboard wet lease aircraft at the moment.
