Q: What do I do if my checked baggage is lost at Eurowings?

We regret that your baggage is delayed. Please report immediately to the Eurowings baggage tracing desk in the arrivals area of your destination airport, as we regret that later reports cannot be taken into account . Our colleagues will prepare an official loss report and do everything possible to find your baggage as quickly as possible. During the first 5 days after the loss of your baggage, only the airport where you reported the loss is responsible for the search. We will search for your baggage using the WorldTracer system and will keep you informed of the progress of the search by e-mail and SMS. Once your baggage has arrived at your destination airport, we will contact you to arrange delivery. We will ensure that the baggage is delivered by courier to your address and at a time that suits you. If you wish, the baggage can also be collected personally at the airport.

Question 1

What is important to know about baggage on a one-stop Eurowings flight?

Accepted Answer

After you have handed over your baggage during check-in at the departure airport, it is automatically checked in through to your destination, allowing you to transfer conveniently without your baggage.

Attention:

For customs reasons, it is unfortunately not possible to check baggage through on flights from non-Schengen1 and/or non-EU departure airports such as Istanbul or Izmir with a transfer in Berlin. For this reason, we ask you to collect your baggage after you arrive in Berlin and proceed with it to the Eurowings transfer counter in the main hall. There you will get your boarding pass for your onward flight. The transfer counter is marked with signs and is located right next to the regular check-in counter – just 100 meters from the baggage claim hall.

Charges

The baggage surcharge and any surcharge for excess baggage are only due once and cover the entire route, from the departure location through the transfer location to the destination airport.

I have already booked my Eurowings flight. How can I buy an additional bag?

You can always add an additional bag to your booking through our website or the call centre.

Please note that purchasing an additional bag at the airport costs more than buying it in advance on our website or via the call centre.

Question 3

Are there restrictions on the number and weight of items of baggage at Eurowings?

Accepted Answer

Each passenger may check in up to 5 items of baggage, each of which may not weigh more than 32 kg.

Question 4

What are the baggage regulations for infants and children at Eurowings?

Accepted Answer

For children under 12 years, the same baggage regulations apply as for adults. This applies even if children will not be sitting in their own seats.

Two of the following items may be carried and checked in as baggage per infant/child free of charge:

A pram
A pushchair
A booster seat
A carrycot

Further items of baggage must be booked at extra cost. It is not possible to take prams or buggies (except “pocket buggies”) on board the aircraft.

Pocket Buggies

You can take “pocket buggies” instead of one large cabin bag (max. 8 kg) on board, e.g. if you have booked the SMART fare or added the "2 Cabin Bags & Priority Boarding" service to the BASIC fare.

Booster seats

If your child is to sit on a booster seat in the cabin, this must first be examined at the check-in counter to ensure it is suitable for the flight. For this reason, web check-in is not available for passengers bringing a booster seat.

What charges apply for checking in baggage at Eurowings?

Free baggage allowance & checked baggage

There is a charge for each piece of checked baggage in the BASIC fare. However, you can add one piece of baggage up to 12 kg for as little as from €17 / £14 / 16 CHF / $18 / 421 CZK / 201 SEK / 192 NOK / 127 DKK / 74 PLN / HUF 6.593 / 68 AED (depending on route) or one piece of baggage up to 23 kg from 19 € / £16 / 18 CHF / $21 / 470 CZK / 225 SEK / 214 NOK / 142 DKK / 83 PLN / 7.369 HUF / 76 AED (depending on route).

SMART and BIZclass passengers can check one or two pieces of baggage free of charge at the check-in counter, depending on the baggage allowance in your fare. In addition, all passengers, regardless of fare, have the option to purchase and check in additional baggage before departure online, via the Call Centre or at the airport counter (fee summary). This additional baggage is then considered excess baggage. There are no additional charges when checking in at the airport.

Additional charges of €12 / £10 / 11 CHF / $13 / 297 CZK / 142 SEK / 135 NOK / 89 DKK / 52 PLN / 4.654 HUF / 48 AED will only apply if passengers check in more baggage than they are entitled to according to the booked fare or have purchased in advance, and/or if the baggage exceeds the permitted weight limits when checked at the airport.

Additional baggage in the BASIC, SMART and BIZclass fares

If you purchase additional baggage online or via the Call Centre, you will avoid increased charges at the airport. You can add additional baggage during or after booking your flight under "My Trip". The fees for each additional bag depend on 1) your purchased fare and 2) the weight of the checked baggage. All options for your fare are summarised on this page, as well as information on sports and special baggage.

Can I add baggage to an existing Eurowings booking?

Accepted Answer

Yes, baggage can be added to a booking up to before web check-in closes before departure. If this is done online via "Book add-ons", via mobile in the "Manage bookings" area, or via telephone, the usual additional charges apply. You will pay more if you register your baggage when you get to the airport counter.

What do I do if my checked baggage is damaged?

Accepted Answer

We are very sorry if your checked baggage was damaged on a Eurowings flight. We will make every effort to resolve the incident quickly.

If you notice damage to one of your pieces of baggage upon arrival, please make sure to report it to the Eurowings baggage tracing desk. You will receive a confirmation with an incident number (PIR number, e.g. CGNEW12345), which you should kept for further correspondence. You can find more information here.

If you only discover damage at home or in the hotel, please report it in writing here within the statutory period of seven days after your flight. You can find more information on this topic in our FAQs.

Please note that Eurowings accepts no liability for wear and tear on your baggage or for damage caused by the baggage itself. This applies to:

Oversize and heavy items of baggage
Packaging that is unsuitable for flights (boxes, plastic bags, etc.)
Baggage that has already been checked in with damage
Scratches and dents on the item of baggage
Dirt on the item of baggage

Question 8

What do I have to consider when taking smart baggage on a flight with Eurowings?

Accepted Answer

If you wish to check in your smart baggage for a flight with Eurowings, the lithium battery must be removed before check-in and carried in the cabin in your hand baggage. Even if the baggage is to be transported in the cabin, the lithium battery must be removed before departure.

Smart baggage with fixed batteries cannot be transported and is prohibited on board.

Question 9

What may I pack in my baggage and what is prohibited at Eurowings?

Accepted Answer

For security reasons, your baggage must comply with certain regulations and restrictions. There are also measures and guidelines which must be observed. Knifes, scissors and sharp items are with the exemption of prohibited weapons generally allowed. Please ensure that all sharp items in the checked baggage are protected from puncturing the bag shell to avoid injuries during loading and unloading of the aircraft.

When can I have another item of baggage included free of charge when flying with Eurowings?

Accepted Answer

When you pay for your flight booking via eurowings.com with your Eurowings Credit Card Gold and you are travelling with a child under 12, the first chargeable item of baggage is included free.

Question 11

What happens to my baggage if my Eurowings flight is cancelled? Where can I collect it?

Accepted Answer

If you've already checked your baggage in, you will have to collect it from baggage collection. If you have booked an alternative flight or we have rebooked one for you, you will have to check your baggage in again for the new flight.

Follow the signs and announcements to collect your baggage. Our ground crew will be happy to offer assistance.

Question 13

Can I carry Zamzam water on a Eurowings flight?

Accepted Answer

You can carry one package of up to five litres of Zamzam water for free in addition to your checked baggage allowance. It must be safely packed and labelled in a sealed plastic container, covered by a protective cardboard box. Up to 100 ml may also be carried in hand baggage.

The transportation of the Zamzam Waters is only free of charge on the flight from Jeddah; for any connecting flights, the weight of the water must be included in the additional baggage allowance booked.

Keep in mind that you can only carry Zamzam water from Jeddah if you hold an Umrah or Haj visa. This applies to all guests, including GCC nationals.

Which checked-in baggage items will Eurowings not assume liability for?

Accepted Answer

We do not assume liability for certain items, should these be damaged as part of checked-in baggage. A list of these items can be found in our General Conditions of Carriage (GCC) in Article 15.3 (Damage to Baggage).

Can I check-in my baggage in the evening before my Eurowings flight?

Accepted Answer

Would you like to drop off your baggage the night before? You can do so at the following airports:

Berlin (BER): 16:00 – 17:00 (Saturdays only at the baggage kiosks) for next-day flights until 12:00 noon
Cologne-Bonn (CGN): 16:00 – 17:00 for next-day flights until 12:00 noon
Dusseldorf (DUS): 18:00 – 20:00 for next-day flights until 12:00 noon
Hamburg (HAM): 18:00 – 20:00 for next-day flights until 10:00 a.m.
Stuttgart (STR): 18:00 – 20:00 for next-day flights until 08:00 a.m.

The service is available free of charge at the baggage kiosks (except Stuttgart) or for €5.00 per person (incl. taxes) at the counter.

Use of the kiosks is not available for flights to Armenia, Egypt, Georgia, Montenegro, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Turkey or the United Arab Emirates.

Late Night Baggage Drop is not available for flights to Beirut, Pristina and Erbil, or for flights to the USA or Canada. Sports weapons cannot be dropped the night before.

If free check-in at the airport is not included in your fare (e.g. in the BASIC fare), we recommend checking in online before dropping of your baggage.
