Damaged or missing baggage

In the event that your baggage arrives damaged or delayed, we would like to provide you with the best possible support. We deeply regret these circumstances and will take all necessary measures to recover your baggage as quickly as possible or to compensate for any damage to your baggage.

  • On this page and in the respective FAQ sections you will find all the important information and a video on damaged, delayed or lost baggage, as well as information about compensation and insurance.

All the following rules apply to flights with an EW flight number. For flights from our partner airlines that do not have an EW flight number, the regulations of the respective airline apply. In these cases, please contact the airline directly.

Damaged baggage

If you discover damage to any of your bags on arrival, please immediately report the damage online by using the Baggage Self Service or contact the local Eurowings baggage tracing desk at the airport. In both cases you will receive a written confirmation with a file reference number called PIR (property irregularity report number, e.g. CGNEW12345). It is essential that you keep this fsafe.

In order to receive compensation for any damage, it is necessary for you to submit your claim in writing, in addition to the property irregularity report. To this end, please contact our service provider Dolfi1920 GmbH.

Please note that any damage to your baggage must be reported within the statutory period of 7 days after receipt of the baggage.

Delayed/missing baggage

We regret that your baggage is late. Please wait until all the baggage has been delivered at the baggage carousel and keep all your flight documents, especially your boarding pass and the baggage tag.

If your baggage does not arrive at your destination airport, please report this immediately so that an official report can be made. You can report your loss in the following ways:

  • At the airport of arrival: at the Eurowings baggage tracing desk

  • Online: via the Baggage Self-Service

Whichever you choose, you will receive a PIR (property irregularity report) number (e.g., CGNEW12345). It is essential that you keep this safe.

Please note that for the first five days, our local baggage handling agent is responsible for tracing your lost baggage.

Loss of personal belongings

If you have left an item on board one of our aircraft, please report this immediately upon arrival at the Eurowings baggage tracing desk at the airport. Lost items on board will be handed over by our cabin crew to our baggage tracing department at the airport and can be collected by you there.

All lost items that have not been collected after a storage period of one to four weeks will be sent to the Eurowings central baggage warehouse. After this period has elapsed, please enter your loss report here so that we can allocate your item as quickly as possible. Please only fill in the form if your item is not at the baggage tracing desk at the airport.

Liability, reporting deadlines & baggage insurance

In general, passengers are responsible for their carry-on baggage. The liability of airlines for checked baggage is regulated by law based on the Montreal Convention.

Eurowings is not liable for signs of wear and tear such as scratches, dents or soiling as well as damage to overstuffed, overweight or improperly packed baggage. The exclusion of liability also applies to certain items in the checked baggage. A list of these objects can be found in our General Conditions of Carriage (CGT) in article 15.3.

Please report any loss of or damage to your baggage online via the Baggage Self Service or at the local Eurowings baggage tracing desk immediately upon arrival. A subsequent report in writing can be made within the legally stipulated time (postmark or automatic date of receipt is the determining factor for compliance with the reporting deadlines), but in this case the burden of proof is reversed, and you must provide evidence that the problem occurred during air transportation.
