Offset CO2 emissions with Eurowings

Flying more sustainably

Find out how you can make your flight more sustainable at any time

Active climate protection is important to us. We are taking many effective steps to keep our CO2 footprint as small as possible. The use of sustainable aviation fuel (abbr. SAF), the implementation of newer and more modern airplanes, and our contribution to climate protection projects are part of this. All of these steps help prevent, reduce, and compensate for CO2 emissions. The advancement and expansion of these measures are firm components in our corporate strategy. They are our number one priority.

You, too, can make a difference by taking responsibility with us and getting active. We offer you flexible options to offset the CO2 emissions of your flight quickly and simply. Until now, airplanes have used a CO2-producing fossil fuel to fly: conventional kerosene. The CO2 emissions of the aviation fuel used can be offset in two ways.

Flying more sustainably - here's how it works:

Reduction of CO2 through the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)

Mountain landscape

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is the first real alternative to fossil aviation fuel. Through an innovative manufacturing process, carbon from existing sustainable biomass or gases is reused and converted into fuel. Only waste from forestry and agriculture, as well as used cooking oils, are used for this process. This replaces conventional fossil fuels that are refined from crude oil. Compared to kerosene, SAF reduces CO2 emissions by at least 80%.

To reduce your flight-related additional CO2 emissions with SAF, we calculate them and ensure that your valuable contribution to sustainable aviation fuel is used for future flights, should you decide to reduce additional CO2 emissions.

CO2 compensation through the support of climate protection projects

Eurowings plane flies over treetops

In collaboration with our experienced partners myclimate, SQUAKE and ClimatePartner, we offer you the opportunity to offset the CO2 emissions of your flight by supporting high-quality climate protection projects. We ensure that all supported climate protection projects are certified according to the highest available standards, such as ‘The Gold Standard‘*.

All of the climate protection programmes from these three companies – for example, the renaturation of Königsmoor in Schleswig-Holstein – represent an effective means of compensation. For example, projects dedicated to conserving or restoring natural areas help remove CO2 from the atmosphere and store it in vegetation. This offsets the CO2 emissions caused by flying. In addition, such projects promote the health and well-being of local populations and contribute to other global sustainability goals that we are committed to.

*Non-commercial certification organisation recommended by the German Federal Environmental Agency
