Our 4 highlights for a trip to Scandinavia

Enjoy midsummer in Gothenburg

Gothenburg in Sweden

If you've always wanted to enjoy a classic fika, take a trip to Gothenburg. Spend the Swedish coffee break in one of the many cosy cafés - preferably in the Haga district, which is Gothenburg's oldest district. Its oldest house dates back to 1790. The charm of those times can be felt everywhere in the alleys between the colourful wooden houses. After the refreshment break, holidaymakers can explore the best sights of Gothenburg. And where better to do this than from the water? Book a so-called Paddan tour and explore the harbour city from its many small canals. Here you will pass, for example, the sailing ship Viking or the famous Feskekörka, a fish market dating back to the 19th century.

Back on land, take a lunch break in the Saluhallen. In this traditional market hall, you'll be spoilt for choice between the many Swedish delicacies - how about a delicious moose wrap, for example? With a full stomach, you can pay a visit to Gothenburg harbour, which is the largest in Sweden. Despite the hustle and bustle, you can learn a lot about the history of the city. For example, visit the historic ships that are anchored here. You can even see a real submarine in the Maritiman adventure museum. If you want to take Scandinavian design home with you as a souvenir, Kungsgatan is a good place to go. This street in Gothenburg is home to numerous shops where you can shop to your heart's content.

  • A trip to Gothenburg in June is particularly worthwhile: the Midsummer Festival takes place on 23 June 2023. How about a celebration in the old ruins of Bohus Fortress or Tjolöholm Castle, for example? Book your flight to the Midsummer Festival with Eurowings now.

Summer solstice in Stockholm

Stockholm

The city of 14 islands has a lot to offer holidaymakers: from dreamlike gardens to enchanted alleys and educational museums. Stockholm, often referred to as the "Venice of the North", delights travellers with its diversity and numerous possibilities. Anyone planning a holiday in Stockholm should definitely check out some of the many museums. At the top of the list should be the Vasa Museum on the island of Djurgården. Here visitors can marvel at the almost perfectly preserved warship Vasa, which sank on its first voyage in 1628. Also located directly by the sea is the Millesgården Art Museum. In this small oasis of peace you can not only admire paintings, but also sculptures and great garden elements in the outdoor area. And music fans will get their money's worth at the ABBA Museum: here you can put your singing skills to the test and learn all about the iconic band from Sweden.

If you've had enough of museums, you can take a look at Stockholm from above. The Ericsson Globe is one of the city's landmarks: an 85-metre high white multi-purpose hall that is a real feast for the eyes architecturally. With a glass lift - the SkyView - you can be transported directly to the dome of the spherical building and enjoy the view over the Swedish capital from above. After this, a tour to the old town Gamla Stan is worthwhile. Here you will find many nice cafés and restaurants. Equipped with a cinnamon bun to go, you can stroll around the pretty alleys here.

  • The biggest summer highlight in Stockholm is the Midsummer Festival at the Skansen open-air museum. Swedes celebrate Midsummer's Day on 23 June 2023. If you want to spend your summer solstice holiday in Stockholm, you should definitely go to Skansen. The area offers traditional Midsummer activities throughout the weekend: from flower wreath making to classical dances and culinary treats such as reindeer sausage, there is something for every traveller.

A city trip to Oslo

A city trip to Oslo

A mixture between pulsating trendy districts and quiet oases of nature: You won't find this contrast again easily. Oslo is the green capital of Norway and offers not only numerous outdoor activities but also many great museums, restaurants and exciting city districts. A visit to the National Gallery, where travellers can marvel at the famous painting "The Scream" by Norwegian painter Edvard Munch, is definitely part of a memorable city trip in Oslo. Also worth seeing in Oslo are the Viking Ship Museum and Fram Polar Ship Museum, where you can marvel at Viking ships from the 9th century. The famous polar ship Fram was a superlative in its time: no ship could travel further north. In the museum, you can learn more about its exciting expeditions.

The trendy Grünerløkka district is a must-see in Oslo. Here you can stroll between colourful apartment buildings and hip cafés and lighten the wallet in numerous second-hand shops. If you're more in the mood for nature, you can go hiking in the Nordmarka forest area north of Oslo. The metro takes you there in about half an hour from Oslo. A trip to lake Sognsvann is particularly worthwhile. Hikers can relax here after a strenuous tour, go kayaking or simply enjoy the evening atmosphere.

  • By the way: Midsummer Night will be celebrated in Oslo on 23 June 2023. Every year there are a multitude of concerts, events and bonfires - a cheerful atmosphere and dancing into the night guaranteed! Book your flight to the Midsummer Festival in Norway with Eurowings now!

Biking through Copenhagen

Copenhagen

Trendy, trendier, Copenhagen: Denmark's capital is one of the coolest cities in Scandinavia. Not only because the amusement park Tivoli was built in the middle of the city or because travellers can reach all the sights by bike. There are also many street food stands, the modern museums and the colourful architecture which make a holiday in Copenhagen a memorable experience. A must-see in Copenhagen is the Little Mermaid - a bronze statue that has been the Danish capital's most important sight for around 100 years. If you're looking for the perfect Scandinavian photo backdrop, head to Nyhavn. This small harbour enchants visitors with its colourful houses of the 17th century and the picturesque boats anchored here.

High up over the city is the Rundetårn, an astronomical tower from the 17th century, which today is not only used as a public observatory, but also as an exhibition site and tourist attraction: From the approximately 30-metre-high viewing platform, travellers have a fantastic view over Copenhagen. The lunch break on a Copenhagen trip is a little more down-to-earth. The Danes swear by their Smørrebrød. The Danish version of buttered bread is an absolute classic and can be found on almost every corner. Be sure to try it with salty butter, salmon, pickles and onions and spend your lunch break on Queen Louise Bridge - a popular meeting place for the people from Copenhagen.

  • The Danes also celebrate their Midsummer Festival - better known as Saint Hans Aften - on the night of 23-24 June 2023. You can marvel at bonfires all along the Danish coast and join the celebrations in many parks around the city. Book your flight to Copenhagen with Eurowings now!
