Like many cities in the southern Balkans, Tivat has had a stormy past. The city once belonged to Venice, another time to Austria, and then to Yugoslavia. But it has always been a key port city and thrives on its special location in the sheltered Bay of Kotor. The harbour, once a port for warships, is used particularly for luxury yachts today. Fittingly, a luxurious resort was established around the Montenegro marina. But the nearby airport also brings many guests to the sunny city midway along the bay.

The fjord-like gulf, comprising four basins, offers many attractive options for enjoying a long, relaxed holiday. Tivat has a typical Mediterranean climate with 240 days of sunshine a year. The sea here has an intense blue colour, and thus one of the 17 beaches around Tivat is called the "Blue Horizon". However, there is also a blue grotto to be seen in the gulf. Ready to take on a challenging aquatic sport? You've found the right place. Anything goes here – sailing, boating, surfing, diving, snorkelling, swimming, and fishing.
Small islands in the gulf like Prevlaka, the island of the flowers, offer destinations for amateur sailors, but the gulf is also surrounded by nature that offers delightful day trips. Tivat's location right on the water guarantees you plenty of fresh fish and other Mediterranean specialities. For wine lovers, Montenegro is a best-kept secret: the tradition of viticulture in Montenegro dates back to the 2nd century, when the Romans invaded "Illyricum inferius". The local varieties, Vranac and Krstač, are the pride of the region's vintners. Tivat promises a holiday full of indulgence.
